Round 2 of the 2024 Middleton Cup campaign was staged this Saturday at Bramford BC, where this round's opponents were Essex.
Setting the scene, the march started under a leaden sky, with a stiff breeze, progressed through wind and rain into a torrential downpour that led to a break in play until, finally, as play finished the sun came out.
At the pre-game team talk, the squad showed their appreciation for Adam Turner on his Middleton Cup debut
Despite the weather, there was a buzz as play started, with both teams being very vocal. The action was even all the way through the first half of the game with the score after 10 ends tied at 51 - 51
After this the match ebbed and flowed, although the scoreboard only went negative once in the final half of the game. There was a great collective team spirit from the start, with encouragement across the green, which saw the Suffolk boys finally win a closely fought match
Final Score: Suffolk 116 - 111 Essex
Points Score: Suffolk 15 - 7 Essex
Top Suffolk Rink: Stuart Brimlow, Andrew Drummond, Mark Eustace, Mark Royal
So the final match, away against Leicestershire on 06 July, will be a competitive one, with Suffolk still in with a chance of winning the group although our fate rests in the hands of others.
