Suffolk Edged In One Shot Thriller
Suffolk lost out by a single shot in a match where the tension built up over an absorbing game to reach a thrilling conclusion on the last end of the last rink.
Suffolk started the match with a team as per the published sheet with the exception of the injured Adrian Beecroft . Ryan Claxton moved across to take Adrian’s place in Danny Ramsbottom’s set and Andrew Drummond came in for Ryan on Dom Warren’s rink.
In a see-saw match that saw lead changes across most rinks, Suffolk were down by 13 shots (36-23) at the 5 end mark, up by 7 shots (51-58) after 10 ends and down by 4 shots (83-79) at the 15 end stage. After some vocal support by the large contingent of Suffolk supporters and some pressure shots by our boys we were up by 3 shots as the last rink played their final end.
Despite the best efforts of Elliot Last and his rink at head control, they couldn’t prevent Norfolk’s Ian Catchpole from taking a four with his final bowl to win the match 118-117. Final points score is Norfolk 17 points, Suffolk 5 points
Heartbreak for Suffolk, joy for Norfolk, and absorbing bowls of a high calibre for the spectators
