EC Weekend Update

This last weekend was all Eastern Counties!

Starting on the Saturday, our Eastern Counties League squad visited County Arts BC to take on Norfolk. As was always going to be the case, there was an element of football related banter but, when push came to shove, the boys got the job done running out 120 - 106 winners. With four rink wins, this gave Suffolk a points score of 18 - 4.

After all teams have played twice, Suffolk currently sit top of the ECL table with 38 points and a +57 shot difference over second placed Norfolk who have 25 points and a +12 shot difference

The highest scoring rink was the Exec Rink and they also sit on top of the Exec Rink Table

Sunday was, slightly confusingly, the 2023 Eastern Counties Final, the Finals having now moved to the early part of the following season. These finals feature the main event winners from the County Finals of the seven Eastern Counties and were held in glorious weather at Cottenham BC in Cambridgeshire

Unfortunately, John Rednall and Joe Sims were unable to progress through to the afternoon finals so Suffolk were represented by Andrew Drummond in the 2 Wood Singles Championship Final and the Thurlton set (pictured above) of Ryan Claxton, Shaun Cook (Skip), Mark Cole and Tom Critoph, a late stand-in for Phil Reeder who was taken ill, playing in the Fours Championship Final. This is the reason that the boys are in club tops rather than County shirts, which was accepted by the EC officials

Andrew had a hard fought match in the 2 Wood finals against Mark Nullmeyers of Essex eventually being on the wrong end of a 15 - 8 score line.

In the Fours final, the early stages were relatively close but Shaun and his team started pulling away with some bowling that was really easy on the eye to run out 22 - 12 winners over the Bedfordshire champions. For the trivia buffs amongst you, Shaun and Mark are no strangers to the Eastern Counties Finals being the Pairs champions in 2013 and Triples champions with Ryan in 2022

Well done to everyone who represented Suffolk over the weekend, no matter the result.

Don't forget next Saturday, 25 May 2024, is our only Eastern Counties League home fixture this season. It would be great to get as many supporters as possible at this match against Hertfordshire which will be held at Hadleigh BC. Match starts at 10.30 am
