Sunday saw the 2024 Eastern Counties Finals take place at Elsenham BC and Bishop Stortford BC in Bedfordshire.

Suffolk had three qualifiers in the Finals which were held in sunny but breezy conditions

In the Triples event at Elsenham BC, Suffolk were represented by the Cornard BC set of Danny Twyman, Kyle Leeks and Richard Leeder

The Cornard lads came through 14-13 in the semi-final against the Huntingdonshire set led by Peter Brown. Another close match followed in the final where they played the Essex side from Happy Valley BC skipped by the familiar face of Dom Warren. A tense, close fought match ensued which included 3 dead ends and needed an extra end after the scores were level at 14-14. The Suffolk boys nerve held to run out 16-14 winners

The semi-finals of the singles competitions were held at Bishops Stortford BC. Again with sunny and breezy conditions but this time accompanied by the sound track of Stanstead Airport flight arrivals!

Matt Smith from Haughley BC was the first in action in the two wood Singles against Essex's Dan Hughes (Kings Chase BC) in an exciting match that was decided by a single shot on the final end with Dan Hughes taking the victory.

Next up on the same rink was Elliot Last from Felixstowe & Suffolk BC in the four wood Singles who took on Chris Beard of Bedfordshire. Elliot started well, going into 12-2 lead but Chris put on a gritty fight back to run out a 21-16 winner

Well done to all our competitors and a big thank you to Trevor Hackett and the ECBA for organising the Finals as well as to  Elsenham BC and Bishop Stortford BC for hosting the events
