Balcomb Regional Finals Report

The Balcomb Trophy Regional Finals were held at Wellingborough last Sunday in conditions that finally saw bowls as a summer sport. While the spectators found the shade, the bowlers on the green felt the heat as they all tried to battle their way through to the National Finals.

Suffolk were drawn against our neighbours from up the A140. Norfolk fielded a strong, well disciplined team, lead by David Smith and Wayne Willgress, but Suffolk edged the first half of the match by a single point at 10 ends. Then good bowling by Norfolk, with the occasional helping hand from Lady Luck, saw them pull away to finally win the match by a score of 44 – 29

In the other semi-final, Leicestershire shaded Huntingdonshire by a single point 34 – 33 before falling to Norfolk in the final by the same margin, 38-37

So good luck to our neighbours at Leamington and better luck next season to our lads
