If there was one word to sum up the final of the Mixed Fours on Saturday 6th September between the Blue and Green teams of Felixstowe & Suffolk it would be WOW!!!
To have a final go to the final shot of the final end of a match will show why this word is appropriate.
The game was played in an excellent spirit between clubmates, who were truly competitive on the green once the match started.
The Green team went into an early lead which the blue team gradually reduced and then reversed, to leave it with 2 rinks finished in which the Green team had won with an overall shots lead of 9 with the Blue team leading in the last match by 15 shots with 4 ends to play.
15th end – Green score 2 – lead now 13 shots on the rink and 4 overall. 16th end Greens pick up 1; 17th end 2 more to Greens. We now have a match score of 1 shot lead to the Blues with the final end coming up. With Greens holding a match winning position the Blues skip – Steve Giles killed the end. All to play for once more!!! The 18th end saw the jack pushed into the ditch and the Greens were holding 2 shots. Great attempt from Steve Giles, but his shot not enough to turn the game around and Greens win by 2 shots in the game.
Match score – Felixstowe & Suffolk Blues 47 – Felixstowe & Suffolk Greens 48.
Many congratulations to Margaret Insley and her team, but all the bowlers need to be congratulated on an exciting and nail biting final which was a fitting conclusion to this season.
Following the match the trophy was presented to the winning team captain by the Bowls England (Suffolk) President, Colin Hunting.
Thanks to all the bowlers that played in this years matches, to the team captains and everyone who make bowling possible.
