A proud day for the Drummond Family, Borough of Eye BC and Suffolk as a whole as we celebrate another National Champion.

Nayara Drummond, just 12 years old, went through Saturday's qualifying rounds dropping just one set and then dropped only another 1.5 sets in all the final stages in the process of becoming the Girls Under 18 Singles Champion. All this at an event being held at Leamington Spa, the iconic home of the National Finals and with the added pressure of being watched by members of the Bowls England Performance Team, who were in attendance to scout emerging talent and provide encouragement throughout the weekend.

Speaking after the family had returned to Suffolk, Nayara's father Andrew Drummond had this to say about his daughter's achievement...

"It’s unreal. Not quite sunk in yet to be honest. We didn’t even manage to get a family photo because she was being summoned for interviews and fitting of England attire etc.

Myself and Maz honestly couldn’t be prouder of what Nayara has achieved. Winning the Bowls England Girls Under 18 Singles at just 12 years old is nothing short of remarkable. She was up against players who are older, more experienced, and physically stronger, yet she displayed incredible composure, determination, and love for the game.

To see her hold her own—and then some—against such strong competition has been inspiring. It’s a testament to her dedication and passion, and I think it also speaks volumes about how welcoming and encouraging the bowls community has been, especially Borough of Eye Bowls Club members. We’ve always believed in supporting her wherever her interests took her, but to see her thrive at such a young age in a sport I am also very passionate about is both surreal and deeply rewarding.

This is hopefully just the beginning for her, but no matter what comes next, moments like this are truly special for any parent to witness."

Nayara will now represent England in the in the British Bowls Championships Under 18 Singles later this summer. Well done Nayara and we all wish you the best of luck when you pull on what is hopefully your first of many England shirts
