Mixed Triples Final

What a wonderful day it was for the Mixed Triples final between Ipswich B.C. and Felixstowe & Suffolk White on Saturday 26th August. The perfect setting with the castle as the backdrop bathed in glorious sunshine set the scene for what turned out to be a magnificent game of bowls between two talented and well matched teams.

Ipswich established an early lead which they held through the match, at one point having a more than 15 shot advantage over their opponents, but , displaying tenacity and skilful bowling, Felixstowe & Suffolk gradually reduced the deficit to produce a situation where, with the final end of the last rink being played Ipswich only held a 2 shot lead, so, very much all to play for.

Having delivered 17 woods in the final end, Felixstowe & Suffolk held 1 shot, so everything on the last wood, which was an excellent delivery but not quite enough to get 2nd shot.

Ipswich win 66-65!!! Quite magnificent and a worthy final to conclude a wonderful season.

Following the match, the presentation of the trophy was carried out by the B.E. County President - Gordon Ball - to the victorious Ipswich team captain - Graham (Spike) Howlett.

Many thanks must go to Framlingham Castle B.C. for hosting the final, especially to Howard Isaacs, Framlingham Castle B.C. Secretary, the greenkeeper(s), the volunteers who provided the catering and refreshments and, of course, to all the bowlers in the final as well as those who played in the league during the season.
