The start of the 2025 Middleton Cup campaign took place at Felixstowe & Suffolk BC yesterday when a strong Suffolk side took on Cambridgeshire. Not the nicest of days to play bowls with some showers of varying strength but the players stayed on despite the weather.

Suffolk got off to a strong start leading 33-24 (+9) at the 5 end mark and the lead increasing to 60-47 (+13) at the halfway mark although it was 3 rinks all on the score sheet. By 15 ends Suffolk had taken a firm grip on the match, leading 87-68 (+19) and holding 5 rinks. With one eye on the shot difference board, Suffolk pushed on for a strong finish with a final score of 125-93 (+32) and a 5-1 rink score

This puts Suffolk top of the East group with 20 points closely followed by Essex with 17 points. This makes the next game in two weeks time at Essex County BC really important in our quest to reach the latter stages of the Middleton Cup

Top scoring rink was Adam Turner, Andrew Drummond, Kyle Leeks and Richard Leeder with a 21-10 victory.

Good luck to the boys in the next game in Southend in two weeks time. Thank you to everyone who turned up to watch despite the weather, the boys really do appreciate the support.

Finally, thank you to Felixstowe & Suffolk BC for being great hosts. A good green, warm welcome and wonderful bacon rolls!
